Night Vision
One of the main forms of night vision technology is thermal imaging. Thermal imaging works by detecting the difference in temperature between objects in the foreground and background. By being able to tell even the smallest of temperature changes between objects makes the thermal imaging camera and this particular night vision technology one of the widest used in the market today.
Before the introduction of thermal imaging the most often used form of night vision was image intensification often found in night glasses such as telescopes or binoculars. Image intensification technology uses the principle of magnifying sources of natural light such as moonlight and starlight to show items that would otherwise be in the dark. This technology was often used in the battlefield among soldiers.
With the introduction of thermal imaging it became much easier and more efficient to work with night vision technologies. Cameras and night vision devices became smaller and easier to handle. With the introduction of thermal imaging you no longer needed starlight or moonlight it was now possible to see in the darkest of dark places including smoke or light fog filled areas. Making the uses of night vision technologies much wider scoped.
