Night Vision Goggles
When buying night vision goggles, there are several things that must be taken into account. For starters, budget plays an important part in the search for the perfect night vision goggles. NVG's are separated by generations. First generation goggles offer a minimum night viewing experience. Although this may be good for hunting or home security, the image isn't as sharp as some people would like it. Second generation NVGs offer a sharper image thanks to an additional amplifier which allows an image to appear brighter and sharper. If the second generation goggles don't have the oomph you have been looking for, one can always get a third generation device. These devices are the best available and incorporate the latest in NVG technology. With a third generation device, you can clearly make out objects at over 100 yards away. The only downside to this is the fact that third generation devices may cost up to and over $3000. Aside from budgets, there are also things you can look for such as the photosensitivity of the goggle or the signal to noise ratio. If all of these terms are becoming too technical, the best bet would be to determine how you intend to use the goggle. If it’s strictly for recreational purposes then a 1st generation device would do fine. However, if it’s for something more important such as home security or something of that nature, a 2nd generation or higher would suffice.
